Fresh off of starring in the Actor's Express production of Lucas Hnath's Red Speedo, Department of Theatre & Film alumnus Marlon Andrew Burnley (MFA, 2018) is currently appearing in the Alliance Theatre production of The New Black Fest's Hands Up. Hands Up is co-directed by Keith Arthur Bolden, who is no stranger to the UGA stage, having co-directed The Georgia Incarceration Performance Project: By Our Hands as a part of the Spotlight on the Arts Festival in 2019.

Directed by Keith Arthur Bolden and Alexis Woodard

Across seven monologues written by seven Black playwrights, HANDS UP depicts the realities of Black America from the perspective of varying genders, sexual orientations, skin tones, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The play was originally commissioned in 2015 by the New Black Fest in response to a police officer fatally shooting an unarmed Black teenager, Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO. The themes and stories it tells still ring true today. HANDS UP is produced in association with Spelman College.

This performance is approximately one hour and forty-minutes with no intermission, and contains haze, adult content and language, racial violence, domestic abuse, and sexual abuse.

In addition to accumulating acting credits in the Atlanta theatrical scene, Burnley also serves as the Associate Artistic Director for Out of Hand Theater in Atlanta, GA.

Hands Up runs until October 31. Tickets can be purchased at the link below.
