Applied Drama assignments (THEA 2040/2050) are fulfilled by doing crew, technical, or (in rare cases) shop work for UGA Theatre shows and are required of all theatre majors. The courses have a POD restriction (Permission of Department) that will require approval in order for you to register. Technical Director Allison Hooks arranges Applied Drama assignments. How It Works: STEP ONE: Tina Hantula will send a message via the department listserv notifying students about Applied Drama assignments and dates in the upcoming semester. STEP TWO: Students then contact Tina directly, either in person or over email, until all assignments have been filled (All will be notified when assignments are full). STEP THREE: Tina Hantula facilitates the POD request, making it possible for the student to register for the course in ATHENA (This process is not immediate, but once your POD has been accepted by Tina, that assignment is yours and cannot be given to another student). Work schedules, evening classes, family vacations, or social engagements should be taken into account when discussing your assignment with Tina at the outset, as these do not constitute “extraordinary circumstances” that might impede your ability to meet the requirements of your assignment. Important Notes: If you are planning to audition for a show, be mindful of the dates associated with each Applied Drama assignment. For example, if you are auditioning for SHOW A you cannot also run crew for that show. Similarly, if you are rehearsing/performing for SHOW A, it may be difficult to find time to meet the requirements for the Publicity assignment. Therefore it would be wise to wait for cast lists to be posted before attempting to Late-Add your Applied Drama course. There is no technology or machinery that can replace the capabilities of our students!
